Everything here is yours.

The boats, the bikes, the skis, the trails, the tables in The Pub. None of it needs booking, none of it costs anything, and there is no sheet to sign. If something below appeals, say so to whoever is nearest and it will be ready.

The boathouse lit at sunset across the lake

Now showing winter

On the water.

Waterskiing behind the Ski Nautique

Waterskiing

Our Ski Nautique and a licensed driver, most mornings before the lake gets busy. Wakeboarding and tubing too, if you would rather.

The 1933 Hacker-Craft at speed on Upper Saranac

The Hacker-Craft

A 33-foot 1933 replica, hand-built in mahogany, captained. The classic way to see Upper Saranac, and the loudest thing on the lake.

Two guests in a Budsin electric boat on still water

The Budsins

Wooden electric boats, silent, and yours to take out alone. No licence, no lesson, no company.

Two guests paddling a canoe below the wooded shore

Canoes & kayaks

Pulled off the rack whenever you want them.

Fishing from a boat on the lake

Fishing

Bass and pike. Rods and a driver if you want them, quiet and a thermos if you don’t.

Guests on the dock between swims

Swimming

Off the dock, off the boat, or off an island nobody else is on.

The ELCO, a glass-enclosed electric launch, at the boathouse

The ELCO

A glass-enclosed electric launch, used for breakfasts, lunches and cocktails at dusk. Dinner has been served aboard it, course by course, delivered by motorboat to keep it hot.

In the woods.

Walkers on a private trail through the woods

The trails

Private, and entirely ours. Walk them alone or ask the assistant manager to come along — he does, often.

An e-bike on an empty road through the pines

E-bikes

A fleet of them, and roads with almost nothing on them.

Two riders on fat tire bikes beside the lake

Fat tire bikes

Dirt in summer, snow in winter, same bike.

A picnic table laid under the trees on an island

Island picnics

The kitchen packs it, someone drives you out, and you have the island.

Around the camp.

Guests in black tie around the billiards table in The Pub

The Pub

Billiards, darts, a poker table, a jukebox, and the only television on the property.

A hand-cut wooden Stave puzzle half finished on a table

Stave puzzles

Hand-cut, wooden, and genuinely difficult. Guests have been known to stay up with them.

Croquet on the lawn

Croquet

On the lawn outside the Guest House. Competitive by the second afternoon.

Rackets, paddles and balls on the court

Tennis & badminton

Rackets are in the shed.

Old books on a library shelf

The libraries

Books, films and records, and the nooks to use them in.

Two lounge chairs on the grass above the water

Doing nothing

There are hammocks, terraces, two lean-tos, warming cabins, and a number of corners we did not design for anything in particular. They get used.

The parts
everybody does

A few things happen at the same time each day, and most guests fall into them by the second evening.

Cocktails at seven, in the Great Hall or The Pub. Dinner at eight, at one long table, hosted by a member of the management team. A bonfire at the lean-to at half past nine, for as long as anyone stays. And a fire lit in your room while you are out, so it is going when you get back.

Included

Everything on this page is part of your stay. The boats, the bikes, the skis, the trails, the games, the picnics, the fires. Massages and private yoga are arranged in advance and carry a charge — those aside, nothing here appears on a bill, because there isn’t one.

Just ask.

Or arrive with no plan at all, which is what most people do.
